Marian Triptych
The triptych for this intimate chapel consists of a central penl depicting Our Lady of Mercy holding the Christ child flanked by panels of layered wood shapes showing the imperatives of mercy and action as defined by Christ in St. Matthews Gospel, Chapter 25. The scenes represented are; Instruct the ignorant, Welcome the stranger, Clothe the naked, Visit the sick, Visit the prison and Give food and drink. The five layers of different types of wood give a very slight change in color and texture to the various parts of the sculpture. The fine blue linework gives a simple and subtle definition to the figures.
